Michael Whitby signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Cape Coast and the University of Birmingham

On 24 June 2013, the Department of African Studies and Anthropology sent its representative, Dr Kate Skinner, to accompany pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Michael Whitby to Ghana, West Africa. The purpose of the visit was to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Cape Coast and the University of Birmingham. This agreement facilitates exchanges of staff and students across a range of subjects at the two institutions.

Meanwhile, the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, has entered the U21 network, of which Birmingham is a member.

These are most welcome developments for everyone at the Department of African Studies and Anthropology, and should increase opportunities for study abroad, research collaboration and sharing of professional expertise.
