On Monday 19 October 2015 a countrywide programme of events under the banner ‘Human Rights in Collaboration’ will be launched at the Law Society. This initiative is coordinated by a core team drawn from the Law Society, Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP and Birmingham Law School.
‘Human Rights in Collaboration’ is intended to bring together academic, practitioner and civil society perspectives on a wide range of human rights issues and will be officially launched at an event entitled ‘Where are human rights headed?’, chaired by the President of the Law Society. The programme will run over a two month period leading up to International Human Rights Day on 10 December 2015.
Professor Fiona de Londras, Chair of Global Legal Studies at Birmingham Law School, is one of the coordinating committee and will speak at the Law Society Event. Speaking about the programme of events, she said:
“Birmingham Law School has a long and proud tradition of engagement with policy makers, civil society and the legal professions. In this, we recognize the fundamental relationship between law in action, law in theory, and law’s working in particular economic and political contexts. The involvement of myself and Dr Rosa Freedman in founding and coordinating this initiative is just one example of the continuation of that tradition.”
As part of the programme of events, the Institute of Judicial Administration at BLS will host a public lecture by Nick Hardwick, HM Inspector of Prisons. This lecture will take place at 6pm on 4 November 2015. Further details are available here. This is part of the IJA’s lecture series on Contemporary Issues in Criminal Justice.
