This year, CEPLER hosted more careers events than ever before with the help of our fantastic alumni volunteers. Here are just a few highlights of the CEPLER Careers calendar…

Alumni Hannah Fountain (LLB Law, 2011) of 2 New Street Chambers and Richard Gibbs (GDip Law, 2011) of No5 Chambers, alongside Tunde Okewale, founder of Urban Lawyers and barrister at Doughty Street Chambers, treated  students to an insight into life as a barrister with their successful event “My Life at the Bar”.

Our popular Law In Practice series, where students can hear from practitioners working in various sectors included speakers from banking, crime, construction, aviation and shipping, immigration, corporate, sports law and more. Alumni volunteers included Kevin Carpenter (LLB Law with Business Studies, 2008) on Sports Law, Eliza Hakes (LLB Law with French, 2009) on Banking Law, and Ian Insley (LLB Law, 1977) with his talk ‘The Essex Boy and the Coalman: Construction Law in Practice’.

We are always seeking ways to support our students in their future, but this can only be done with your help. Volunteering to host a careers event is just one way that you can get involved.

Can you spare an hour to inspire students in a lecture theatre, or offer a work experience placement to one of our undergraduates?

Placements offer our students invaluable insight into the working world, giving them the skills and tools they need to become the leaders and lawyers of the future. To date, 47 students have undertaken work experience with the following organisations as a result of CEPLER’s work:

  • Birmingham Personal Support Unit
  • British Pregnancy Advisory Service
  • Carter Moore Solicitors
  • Deutsche Bank
  • No5 Chambers
  • Bailey Wright & Co
  • Hill Hofstetter
  • Higgs & Sons
  • HM Courts and Tribunals Service
  • Legal Insurance Management Group
