CrossCurrents 2016 - the University of Birmingham's new contemporary music festival - was received to great acclaim by audience and critics alike.
In excess of 1500 people attended the festival; performers from the UK, the US and Belgium appeared; classical music rubbed shoulders with folk and jazz, professional performances with student ones; the final concert brought together premieres by no less than 11 composers, including one by the Master of the Queen's Music, Judith Weir, who was present. Of her Distance and Enchantment, also performed, the Telegraph wrote, 'This folk-imbued meditation on the way many people simply disappear never to return took on a colossal intensity in this terrific performance.'
