The first intake of the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme, graduated on Thursday 10th March 2015, with 165 MSc awards given. Participants, together with their families and friends attended a graduation ceremony and degree reception at the University of Birmingham to recognise their significant academic and developmental achievements.
The Anderson programme also has played a major part in participants’ career development. Preliminary data show that approximately 50% of participants have been promoted during their two years on the programme with 96% attributing this to the personal development, credibility and confidence gained through participation on the programme.
The ‘Anderson’ programme is a two year course aimed at mid-tier clinicians and managers in health and care, leading to an MSc in Healthcare Leadership and an NHS Leadership Academy Award in Senior Healthcare Leadership. With the seventh intake enrolled in November since the programme started in October 2013, there are now 1,584 NHS and social care staff enrolled on the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson programme.
The MSc in Healthcare Leadership is jointly accredited and awarded with the University of Manchester, and delivered by a consortium of partner organisations led by KPMG, including National Voices and LEO Learning, and a number of internationally renowned academic institutions, including Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, Erasmus University of Rotterdam, University of Pretoria, as well as the European Health Management Association. This diverse group has created a unique and innovative blended learning experience, combining online, work-based and face-to-face study. This includes a bespoke virtual campus with interactive case studies based on real patients’ experiences, to create a learning environment that addresses everyday NHS leadership challenges, and in turn helps transform NHS working culture.
The blended learning approach used on the Virtual Campus has won a number of prestigious awards including a Bronze award in the Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards in the category of ‘Best Use of Blended Learning’. This is a globally recognised and highly prestigious award in both learning technologies and talent development, and reflects the innovative learning platform for leadership development used on the programme.
