Senior Fellow Yvonne Sawbridge recently presented her work on emotional labour at the 12th Nursing and Healthcare Conference in Vancouver held on 3-5 October 2016.
Yvonne presented the work she, and the School of Nursing's Dr Alistair Hewison, have developed to help broaden the understanding of emotional labour, and the impact this can have on staff and the care they give to patients, if it is not recognised and supported. Yvonne talked to the Conference about their most recent event - an Improvement Lab "Yellow hats are not just for builders" which enabled several teams from local organisations to develop a plan for supporting their staff in a more structured way. This event was funded by the Patient Safety Collaborative at West Midlands Academic Health Sciences Network, and was co- designed with Vicky Green from Bromford Housing Association's Improvement.
