PhD opportunities

Research is an essential component of the School's activity. Because of this, the School believes that it is very important to invest and support excellence in postgraduate research training.

As part of the School's commitment to research excellence, it funds several PhD scholarships each year (note that the scholarships only cover EU student fees due to funding constraints). The Scholarships are for three years, cover the EU tuition fees and provide a stipend of approximately £8500 each year. In addition to the School PhD Scholarships, research groups may advertise other PhD scholarships gained from separate funds. All of the scholarships are advertised under the studentships section of these pages.

If you are interested in another area of research not covered by the scholarships, or if you are a candidate from outside of the EU, you can also fund yourself to carry out PhD research.

Applications for PhD training in research can be made at any time of the year. How to apply.
