The School of Mathematics has continued its commitment to supporting students with their careers planning in addition to providing a first class mathematics education.

On Tuesday October 8 we ran our annual Maths Careers Fair with a variety of employers attending to inform our students about the opportunities available to them and to offer advice on applications. Students from all years attended and were able to find out about opportunities for work experience and internships, as well as graduate positions. The employers attending included Barnett Waddingham, Delcam, IBM, Office for National Statistics, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Qinetiq, Teach First Tessella and Towers Watson. The employers were impressed with our students with one happy that they "couldn't have talked to more students during the day".

Lindsey Dew an alumna now working in Software Development at The Guardian visited the school to give an inspirational talk to our students. The personal perspective and insight was really appreciated by the students, who had lots of questions for Lindsey following her talk. Following her talk Lindsey was also interviewed on camera as part of our “Life After Birmingham” film series which can be found on our YouTube Channel.

The professional services companies PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte have visited the school this year to deliver skills workshops, to prepare our students for the application process for graduate positions and internships.

If you or your company are interested in visiting the School of Mathematics to connect with our students, or you would like to participate in the “Life After Birmingham” film series, then please contact College Alumni Relations Manager Kathryn Chedgzoy on eps-community@contacts.bham.ac.uk.
