4 - WASC - group

Footballers, athletes and supporters from the School of Mathematics and the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences attended the World Academic Sports Challenge in Paris on Saturday 1st June. The College of EPS and Robinson Low Francis kindly sponsored the team. GDF Suez and Schneider Electric sponsored the event and were actively  seeking to employ students in internships roles and permanent positions. There were many opportunities to meet with representatives from both companies to network and hold informal interviews, which can lead to potential position offers.

The female football team finished on top of their group, having won all their games with a clean sheet and a goal difference of 19 goals. They proceeded to win their 1/8th final and quarterfinal matches, but unfortunately were knocked out in the semifinal,  finishing 3rd out of 40 universities. Gemma Bridge came 3rd in the female 10km event amongst 248 runners with a time of 40:27, and the men’s 4x100m relay team won their heat. Everyone who went thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the next event in 2014 is definitely not to be missed.
