Alumni Reception in Singapore - 13 May 2016

On 13 May, the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir David Eastwood hosted a reception for alumni and friends at the Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore to celebrate the University's strong links with Singapore.

Singapore is home to just over 3,000 alumni, and Birmingham remains a destination of choice for students from Singapore as almost 1,000 are currently enrolled in a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The Vice-Chancellor took the opportunity to celebrate some of the University’s exciting achievements over recent months, including the discovery of one of the oldest Qur’an manuscripts, a new species of dinosaur, and the presence of gravitational waves with the LIGO Scientific Collaboration – a consortium of nearly 1,000 scientists from across the globe.  He also highlighted the new campus buildings to open soon - the Sports Centre and library.

The evening marked a momentous occasion for the University and its relationship with Singapore, as the inaugural meeting of the newly formed Singapore Advisory Group had also taken place.  This group has been assembled to further build upon the University's profile, reach, and influence in this wonderful region.
