Help us treat cancer differently

University of Birmingham alumni like you have the potential to help revolutionise the way we treat cancer.

By supporting the radical work of the Cancer Immunology and Immunotherapy Centre (CIIC) here at Birmingham, you could help fund Gary Middleton’s incredible research into a new way of treating cancer that uses the body’s own defence system to eradicate tumours.

Until recently, it was believed that people’s immune systems simply couldn’t fight cancer. However, a recent discovery has turned that on its head. Scientists were astonished to discover that cancer cells actually have molecules on their surface that prevent the immune cells from recognising them as a threat – a disguise of sorts.Medical member of staff looking at a lung X-ray

Now, Professor Middleton and his team are working to perfect a way of breaking down that disguise – and unleashing the body’s powerful defences. But they need your urgent help.

Will you help us reach our target of £300,000 for this world-leading research?
