Meet the Experts

Dr Yusuf Hartavi
Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Finance

Dr Yusuf Hartavi is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Birmingham Dubai. His teaching specialises in Financial Modelling Techniques, Corporate Finance, and International Treasury Management. Yusuf holds a PhD in Finance along with an MSc in International Securities, Investment and Banking, and an MBA. He received his PhD in Finance from the University of Reading. His data-intensive research investigated the relationship between trading and market quality on UK’s equity markets where he analysed trading styles, particularly High Frequency Trading & Algorithmic Trading, and their impact on liquidity and volatility.

Earlier in his career, Yusuf has worked extensively in financial services and consulting for five years. He worked in banking and public services and has held several roles in data analysis, project management and audit. Prior to joining the University of Birmingham, he worked as a sessional lecturer at Henley Business School where he designed and run Programming for Finance workshops for postgraduates. He also has experience of teaching on a wide range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Financial Markets and Quantitative Finance.
