Research that matters

The University of Birmingham Dubai seeks to become a leading research-oriented campus among higher education institutions in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. We aim to develop a research culture that incorporates the values, expectations, and activities of our community.

In the last decade, the University of Birmingham have made substantial progress in the quality, ambition, and impact of our research. We will build on this platform as we continue to increase the delivery of Research that Matters: research with outcomes that are important to other people, organisations, and academic fields, and are widely disseminated to achieve lasting, transformative impact in the world.

COP28

COP28 UAE took place at Expo City Dubai from November 30-December 12, 2023. The overall provisional delegate total for the conference is expected to be more than 100,000, making it the largest COP in history.

To mark the event, we hosted a programme of events, discussions and projects - highlighting the tremendous research we are leading to help tackle the climate crisis. We were also part of the Universities Climate Network (UCN), comprising 12 UAE-based universities and higher education institutions to collaborate on facilitating dialogues, workshops, public events, policy briefs, and youth participation in the lead up to and following COP28. In doing so, we hope to accelerate sustainable practices, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and contribute to climate solutions in the UAE and beyond.
