Brain Awareness Week 2012

The Brain Awareness Week (BAW) is an international annual event during which neuroscientists are encouraged to come out of the labs and hospitals and engage with the general public to talk about how interesting brain research is, and how understanding more about the brain enriches and improves the well-being of society.

Amongst the events there is an art exhibition “Arts for the brain”, organised at MAC Birmingham, displaying works of art on loan from Stroke Association UK and Parkinson’s UK. The exhibition, 12-25 March 2012, celebrates the power of art to reaffirm individual creativity and to promote the recovery of a mind-body balance. A series of public lectures will allow scientists to talk about these diseases, and some of the displayed artists to talk about their experience of art and its role. Another event, "Meet the Scientist" will take place at Thinktank (Sat, 17th Mar), opened to young people of all ages, while a Cafe Scientifique on the topic of The Brain of Artificial Intelligence, will celebrate Alan Turing’s birth centenary, will be presented by science students of the University trying to reach out and engage the non-science students from our campus and beyond.
