Members of the University of Birmingham have access to hundreds of online journals, also known as periodicals or serials. A very small number of journals are available in print only, or only available online for certain years. These journals are kept in the reading room. The most recent issues are displayed on the racks on top of the old catalogue drawers. Past issues are shelved under the windows. Issues from further back in time are shelved in the Research Reserve but can be requested via FindIt@Bham by clicking on the 'Request this item from the Fine Art library Store' button. Remember, the journals in the reading room are only a tiny proportion of our collection

The library also has runs of nineteenth century and early twentieth century journals such as The Art Union: Monthly Journal of the Arts and The Burlington Magazine. These are kept in the Research Reserve but can be requested via FindIt@Bham by clicking on the 'Request this item from the Fine Art library Store' button. Although many of these are now available online, it can sometimes be useful to see the printed copies because they contain different, often pioneering, examples of printing techniques particularly for colour images, which might not always be accurately reproduced in digital copies.
