Main laboratories

Opening hours

The CTL Main Building informal seating areas are open Monday-Friday 08.30-19.00 in term time. The e-lab can also be used on a drop-in basis when not booked for classes, (check the screen at the door). Events outside these times need to be booked with the CTL Coordinator

The CTL Main building is highly accessible, with ramped entry, lifts to each floor, disabled-access toilets on each floor and height-adjustable working surfaces in each laboratory, including the fume cupboard area of the Wet Lab.

Other features

In addition to the main labs linked above:

  • Discovery zone:  a configurable area primarily designed for school outreach activities – for example, the Royal Society of Chemistry is holding its 2019 Top of the Bench competition in the CTL this year.
  • Novel technician services arrangement, for quick scene changes – technicians have independent access to all floors so that equipment and experiments can be exchanged rapidly.
  • An outstanding array of informal learning areas with seats for nearly 400 students to work alone or in groups.
  • The Grumpy Mule Café. Opening hours in term time are: Monday-Friday 9.00-16.00. You may bring your own food to eat in the café. No food or drink is allowed in the laboratories.
