This module is designed specifically for distance learning by experts in this subject to develop advanced skills in patient assessment and management with regard to dental caries and other oral conditions.

Students will analyse caries patterns in their own patients and employ strategies in detection and diagnosis and use the latest minimally invasive management techniques.

Students will be introduced to new materials and technologies and will develop refined abilities in assessment and evaluation of the potential for introduction into routine practice.

Assessment

  • 20% Discussion on the contemporary management of tooth wear (1000 words)
  • 30% Structured clinical case reports on caries management (maximum 1500 words & 6 illustrations)
  • 20% 2 Caries risk management patient information leaflets (1 for children under 12, one for the elderly)
  • 30% Appraisal of 6 innovative technologies appraisals (using the proforma provided)

Entry requirements
Dental degree and to be working actively in dental practice.
