This module is designed for distance learning to enable students to demonstrate advanced knowledge and clinical skill (up to "certificate" level) in the following subject areas:

  • Minimally invasive direct restorative techniques
  • Periodontal treatment
  • Endodontic treatment
  • Fixed and removable prosthodontics

Some content will also be delivered at two face-to-face residential courses and will provide teaching and/or practical simulation experience in the following module 3 subject areas:

  • Direct restorative techniques
  • Periodontics
  • Endodontics
  • Fixed and removable prosthodontics

Distance learning. Two one-week residential courses.

Module Dates
Year 1: June -September

Assessment

  1. Direct restorative techniques (Simulation) 60%
  • Class II composite exercise (Prepare an annotated, step-by-step, photographic presentation, suitable for undergraduate education) (30% of the total module)
  • Manage occlusal caries in an extracted natural molar (appropriate to lesion) (30% of the total module)

 2. Indirect restorations (Simulation) 40%
Preparation of plastic teeth models for the following indirect restorations:

  • Porcelain veneer
  • Porcelain-fused-to-metal crown
  • All ceramic crown
