Module Overview

The student will have an identified clinical educator within a health care setting where they will have the opportunity to use and develop clinical knowledge and skills acquired during the previous modules, components and placement 1. The opportunity will exist to learn new profession-specific skills and to acquire new knowledge.  

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the component students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate resourcefulness and variety in planning and developing learning within the clinical area
  • Demonstrate clinical reasoning skills enabling development of problem lists and treatment plans to enable effective assessment and treatment of a range of patient presentations
  • Select and safely apply effective treatment programmes
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills with educators and the multidisciplinary team (MDT) – engaging with the process of MDT communication and working
  • Identify psychosocial, cultural and environmental issues in patient management
  • Demonstrate active participation in MDT working, reflecting on the function of MDT appropriate to clinical area and engaging in inter-professional learning within the MDT
  • Demonstrate efficient organisational skills in the management of patients appropriate to clinical area
  • Demonstrate a variety of communication skills across a wide range of service users with a variety of challenges to communication

Module delivery

The students will gain experience of physiotherapy practice within a clinical setting. Teaching and learning methods will include treating patients with the guidance of a clinical educator, observation of experienced clinicians treating patients; tutorials, seminars, discussion and participation in/observation of clinics, case conferences, and ward rounds as appropriate.


Non credit-bearing component (level I equivalent)

180 hours placement learning over 6 weeks
