Birmingham and Midlands Classical Association New Year's Lecture: Andrew Bayliss

For its 2023 New Year's Lecture the Birmingham and Midlands branch of the Classical Association is delighted to present Dr Andrew Bayliss, Head of the Department of Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology on 'The Trouble with Sparta'.

In this talk, aimed at 6th formers and their teachers, and at non-specialist audiences, Dr Bayliss will draw on his extensive research to offer new insights into the unique and often baffling society of the ancient Spartans.

Dr Bayliss has been obsessed with Ancient History since he was twelve. His current research centres on Classical Spartan society and he is the author of The Spartans: A Very Short Introduction.
