James has worked extensively in industrial mathematics, mathematical engineering and mathematical biology projects over the last 15 years. Modelling individual industrial, chemical or physical process to entire chemical plants, specialising in powders technology. Much of the engineering work has focused on novel numerical techniques for fluid structure interactions, fuel cells from element to entire stack modelling, fluidization of powders and solids, novel sensors and device design through modelling. The biological modelling has generally focused on population dynamics or the integration of sensors and devices within a biological context, although there is an increasing focus on modelling haptic processes. However, underpinning this is a keen insight into statistics and applied mathematics relevant to many applications.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Mathematics, University of Birmingham, 2007
  • MSci in Mathematics, University of Bristol, 2004

Biography

Following completion of his EPSRC funded PhD studies in 2007, James transferred to a series of EPSRC, EU or industrial funded postdoctoral research positions.

Following these fixed term positions, James was appointed to his current position as a lecturer within the School of Mathematics. James research interests primarily concern applied mathematics and statistics in industrial settings.
