Sandeep is a multidisciplinary PhD student funded through both the Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP) and School of Dentistry under the supervision of maths supervisors, Dr Sara Jabbari and Mr John Ward and experimentalist supervisors, Drs Sarah Kuehne and Gowsihan Poologasundarampillai. Her current research focuses on developing a system of partial differential equations to predict how biofilm constituents behave under antimicrobial pressure.

Research Themes

  • Mathematical Biology
  • Non-linear partial differential equations
  • Parameter estimation
  • Biofilms
  • Biomaterials

Research activity

The main area of Sandeep's research is developing a novel biomaterial, bioactive glass fibres, to help treat chronic wound infections. These fibres are produced and characterised in the lab and in vitro experiments are used to test their anti-biofilm and cytotoxic effects. Mathematical models consisting of non-linear partial differential equations are also developed and used to make predictions about treatment efficacy depending on key parameters of interest.
