Sophie is a senior systematic reviewer in the Biostatistics, Evidence Synthesis, Test Evaluation, and Prediction Models team. She has extensive experience in evidence synthesis across a range of evidence types and clinical areas, as well as in meta-analysis (including network meta-analysis) and broader research methods.

Sophie is also actively involved in a wide range of teaching and engagement activities.

Biography

Sophie joined the University of Birmingham in 2016 as a Data Manager in the Primary Care Trials Unit working on multiple studies in the anticoagulant group. She shortly obtained a competitively funded Research Methods Fellowship in Systematic Reviews and completed a Master’s in Public Health at University of Birmingham.

She works in the Biostatistics, Evidence Synthesis, Test Evaluation, and prediction Models team, whilst studying part-time for her doctoral degree. She has led and worked on various evidence synthesis projects across a range of clinical areas including type 1 diabetes, inflammatory bowel diseases and cardiovascular surgery. Sophie has been involved in a wide range of projects including health technology assessments, reviews of effectiveness, test accuracy and risk factors, and more recently, qualitative focus groups and interviews.

She has experience in working alongside patient and public involvement groups, as well as being actively involved in community and engagement events for the public and students of all ages. Sophie also manages the Evidence Synthesis Forum, a quarterly seminar series hosted by the Evidence Synthesis team.

Projects involving evidence synthesis; systematic reviews, scoping reviews, umbrella reviews, meta-analyses and network meta-analyses.

Most recent projects include:

Type 1 diabetes – “Effectiveness and acceptability of interventions to preserve beta cells in patients with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes”.  A project comprising of a systematic review and network meta-analysis, scoping review, and qualitative interviews and focus groups. Breakthrough T1D
