Dr Dean Kavanagh is an Assistant Professor of Cardiovascular Sciences, based in the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences. His interests are primarily the application and development of Intravital Microscopy imaging techniques, and their application in the context of microvascular imaging. In particular, he is interested in the mechanisms that drive microvascular inflammation and the identification, development and assessment of potential new inhibitors that may help to limit tissue damage following ischaemia-reperfusion injury. In addition, he has a keen interest in the development of technology around Intravital Microscopy, including development of analysis methodologies and software to help improve data analysis processes for this technique. In line with these interests, he is the designated Facility Manager for our state-of-the-art Intravital Imaging Facility in the Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences.

Dr Kavanagh contributes to teaching on a number of courses across Medical and Dental Sciences, as well as supporting both undergraduate and postgraduate project supervision.
