Tim is a consultant and honorary senior clinical lecturer in oral and maxillofacial pathology, based at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust and the School of Dentistry, University of Birmingham.

Biography

Tim graduated in dentistry from the University of Leeds in 2005 and stayed in Yorkshire for his dental foundation training.  After a year at Guy’s and St. Thomas’, as senior house officer in oral pathology and oral medicine, Tim undertook academic specialty training in oral and maxillofacial pathology in Newcastle.

In 2016, Tim was appointed as consultant pathologist by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust.  He helps to provide the diagnostic biopsy service for clinicians at the Birmingham Dental Hospital.

Teaching

BDS4 - Tim supports the oral pathology teaching for undergraduate dental students in Birmingham School of Dentistry.  He organises clinico-pathological conferences which foster the discussion of interesting cases among clinical and academic staff, trainees, and undergraduate students

Postgraduate supervision

Tim supervises general histopathology trainees rotating through University Hospitals Birmingham.  He is an examiner for the Royal College of Pathologists’ Part One examination (Oral Pathology).

Research

Tim’s PhD research evaluated EGFR, SOX2, and PAX9 in oral carcinogenesis.  He has published several reports of interesting cases as his clinical career has progressed.  He has recently begun research in healthcare management, in the field of human resources.

Other activities

Tim has served as honorary treasurer for the British Society for Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology since 2017.

He is a co-organiser of the UKNEQAS national external quality assurance scheme for interpretive head and neck pathology.
