Hamid Mukhtar is an Associate Professor in the School of Computer Science at University of Birmingham Dubai campus.

His research interests include deep learning, natural language processing, health informatics, and human behaviour modelling in pervasive environments.

Dr Hamid Mukhtar has a doctorate degree in Computer Science from National Institute for Telecommunications (INT), France. Prior to joining University of Birmingham, he gained research and teaching experience at the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan, Taif University, Saudi Arabia, and Telcom SudParis, France (post-doc).

His main research interests include machine learning, natural language processing, health informatics, and human behaviour modelling in pervasive environments. He is currently supervising five master’s students in various research tasks.

Dr Hamid Mukhtar has been engaged with the industry in several research collaborations and grants, providing consultancy on data science and software usability issues. Occasionally, I have conducted workshops to professionals from the software industry on topics of my personal interests such as natural language processing, Android application development, games development, and modern web development technologies (angular, web scraping, etc.)

Having a deep background in computer science, from bachelors and masters studies until my PhD, he has taught a broad range of subjects in the discipline of computer science: operating systems, distributed systems, computer graphics, games design and development, database systems, data structures and algorithms, discrete structures, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, data warehousing, web engineering, scientific computing, expert systems, and professional ethics.

Occasionally, I conduct workshops on applied technologies in mobile application development, game development, web development and machine learning. I provide brief consultancy to the industry on mobile, web, and game technologies and machine learning development issues.
