Dr Tom Marshall combines neuroimaging, transcranial brain stimulation, and computational modelling to understand the function of neuronal oscillations in underpinning attention and decision making.

Biography

Tom Marshall completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology in 2005. After three years in industry he moved to the Netherlands to complete an MSc at the University of Amsterdam, followed by a PhD at the Donders Institute in Nijmegen. His PhD thesis focused on the role of alpha and gamma oscillations in visual attention; how oscillatory activity in sensory cortex is controlled by frontal regions, and how transcranial stimulation can be used to manipulate oscillations and thereby alter behaviour.

Tom then moved back to the UK to complete a post-doc at the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging, University of Oxford. Tom’s postdoctoral work focused on the role of frontal and parietal cortex in decisions to move the eyes, combining biophysical modelling, neuroimaging, and transcranial brain stimulation.

Tom joined the School of Psychology as an Assistant Professor in 2023.
