Dr Puren Aktas is a Research Fellow with expertise in qualitative studies of health systems governance and organisation studies. 

Qualifications

Biography

Puren Aktas is a Research Fellow at the Department of Social Policy, Sociology and Criminology. Her research explores the role of non-profit private healthcare providers within the NHS. She is part of a multi-institutional research project funded by the Wellcome Trust. 

Prior to joining the University of Birmingham, Puren worked at the University of Warwick as a Research Assistant and managed public and patient involvement. 

Her PhD project examined physician discretion and experiences of medical care provision under reimbursement regulations determined by funding bodies. 

She delivered seminars and courses on policymaking, health systems organisation and governance, and health workforce issues.
