Public Health Leadership
This module provides an introduction to management theory and practice in an accessible way. Using organisations that provide public health services as a focus, it explores the key elements of managing self, managing teams and managing organisations to enable you to develop a critical perspective on organisation. It focuses on the use of theory and research to build an understanding of management and leadership in organisations.
Drawing on research evidence primarily from the NHS and other health systems, the module will consider topics such as influences upon health systems; concepts and theories of leadership, organisational change and implementation science; strategic management of health care organisations; new public management and post-bureaucratic management in publicly funded services; markets and competition.
