LANS Funded undergraduate summer studentships 2021/22

Would you like a funded research assistant to help you start a research project or advance a project towards completion?

LANS wish to offer one summer studentship per college (stipend plus some costs), to be open to Liberal Arts and Natural Sciences (LANS) students.  The scheme ran very successfully in previous years, an outline of the scheme and a project proposal form are attached.

The LANS summer studentships scheme gives non–finalist students the opportunity to work on a member of staff’s own research for five weeks during the summer vacation. We will pay them a stipend and will fund your research costs up to a total of £500 for a ‘dry’/library project and up to a total of £1200 for an ‘wet’/experimental project (against itemised expenses).

If you are interested, please complete the attached project proposal form, briefly highlighting the role a LANS studentship could play in helping your team and an outline of the skills required to contribute successfully to your project. This will allow us to match as close as possible the skills set of our students with your requirements.  Because our students spend their third year abroad, we found last year that many of the applicants for the studentships were first years – please be clear if your project requires a specific level of skills/experience.

Please return the project proposal forms to Neil Nelson (n.nelson@bham.ac.uk), by Monday 31st January.
