The College of Medical and Dental Sciences consists of a diverse community of over 1,000 academics and 800 professional services staff who work side-by-side and in collaboration with our NHS partners to undertake research projects and deliver a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Equality and diversity
Promoting equality and diversity is at the heart of the College’s strategic vision and an issue that the College’s Board takes very seriously. The College has delivered a comprehensive and innovative range of activities, refreshed and changed policies, and taken practical steps to improve the working environment within the College.
The College was awarded an Athena SWAN Silver Award in October 2020 in recognition of progress made to address gender equality in higher education and research settings. Visit the dedicated College Equality, Diversity and Inclusion pages for further information on family friendly working, key resources and policies and guidance.

Workplace wellbeing
The College is committed to enabling a positive inclusive working environment that generates a supportive culture for all, transparent communication about what we are doing and how to get involved, and encourages feedback from all staff.
Staff wellbeing at work is crucial, and as part of the University’s commitment to workplace wellbeing there are various support systems and services in place. Within the College there are several Mental Health First Aiders who act as a point of contact and reassurance for any staff member who may be experiencing a mental health issue or emotional distress.
