Dr Emma Robinson is the Deputy Registrar at the University of Birmingham with strategic leadership responsibility, connecting across all Professional Services areas, to ensure the university has a modern, responsive and sustainable operating environment for the future. This includes ensuring the development of new service models, technology-enabled service improvements, workforce development and capacity building across Professional Services. She also has responsibility for strategic leadership of Education and Student Support services across the institution, leading the Professional Services teams that support the student and wider academic experience, in Academic Services and the University's five Colleges.
Since becoming Academic Registrar in 2020, Emma has led a number of institution-wide transformation programmes and significant service redesign focused on improving the student and education experience. She co-chairs the Professional Services strategy workstream, overseeing the design and implementation of the University's new Faculty Professional Services operating model, and has overall responsibility for the institutional functional co-ordination programme to drive organisational effectiveness, operational excellence and alignment with academic priorities.
Before becoming Academic Registrar, Emma held a number of senior leadership roles at the University, including as College Director of Operations (Medical & Dental Sciences) and Chief Operating Officer for Birmingham Health Partners. She joined the University in 2004 and had an early career in research development and leadership, following roles in the biotechnology sector and with the Medical Research Council. Emma holds a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences and a PhD in Molecular Microbiology from the University of Durham.
