Abstract
Regular expressions (regex) allow analysts to retrieve abstract patterns and perform complex searches. This session covers the use of regex to extract a range of conventional linguistic constructions such as progressive aspect and passive voice. We will primarily use AntConc for the hands-on part but also demonstrate how regex works in text editors, which is particularly helpful in pre-processing text data.
