Congratulations to PSIBS Student Sarah Newton who has been awarded the Nature Chemistry Prize for the best flash presentation and poster at the 5th Annual Postgraduate Symposium on Nanotechnology. Sarah was also nominated as the RSC representative and Communications Team Leader for the European Young Chemists' Network (April 2015-2017)
PSIBS Student Rachel Flight was awarded the Best Poster Presentation (Automated optimisation of cell
segmentation parameters in phase contrast microscopy using discrete mereotopology) at MUIA2015
PSIBS student Nina Vyas was presented with the Judges Choice Award for University of Birmingham Three Minute Thesis Competition, which is a competition where PhD students effectively explain their research in 3 minutes to a non-specialist audience. Video: https://goo.gl/7d9Gak. Nina also had a High Speed video shortlisted in the Royal Microscopical Society’s Scientific Imaging Competition. The video was showcased throughout the 2015 Microscience Microscopy congress.
PSIBS Academic Staff Dr Hamid Dehghani and Dr Iain Styles have developed a unique 3D imaging technology for the application of bespoke footwear design with PSIBS student, Hector Basevi and fellow Computer Science researchers. Well done to PSIBS students Nina Vyas and Elizabeth Randall who came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the storytelling researcher video competition run by the Public Engagement with Research Committee at the University of Birmingham. The winners were announced by Alice Roberts at the Myth-busting the Barriers to Public Engagement event on Friday 11th December 2015. PSIBS and Sci-Phy Centre Staff have been awarded a University of Birmingham Teaching Academy Award for Educational Enhancement & Innovation in the Research Informed Teaching theme for work on the innovative PSIBS and Sci-Phy cross-college integrated PhD programmes.
A paper featuring the work of PSIBS Academic staff, (Professor Damien Walmsley,Professor Zoe Pikramenou, Dr Rachel Sammons) and PSIBS students, (Sunil Claire, Sophie Glinton and Hayley Floyd) has been published in the October 2015 Journal of Dentistry.
