Interim Institute Director

Aad van Moorsel is Professor and Head of the School of Computer Science at University of Birmingham. He is the Principal Investigator of UKFin, the UKRI EPSRC Network in Financial Services, launched in September 2022 to provide an interface between academia and industry.

Jessica leads on the non-academic management of the Institute, enabling IIDSAI to undertake world-leading interdisciplinary research, develop strategic partnerships and deliver an exciting and innovative programme of education activities. 

Jessica works alongside the IIDSAI Director to shape and influence the strategic direction of the Institute.

Emma supports the Head of Institute Operations with the day-to-day running of the Institute and the 'Elm House Hub', contributing to the outstanding delivery of the Institute's research, teaching and other interdisciplinary activities.

Emma is the first point of contact for day-to-day Institute/Elm House Hub queries and provides Senior Personal Assistant support to the Institute Director

Dr Kamilla Kopec-Harding

Snr Research Data Scientist (IIDSAI / CAIG)

Kamilla holds an MSci in Chemistry and Pharmacology from the University of Birmingham and a PhD in Computational Chemistry from the University of Manchester.
Kamilla is interested in all areas of data science and has worked with researchers from a range of disciplines (from Computer Science to Earth Sciences), using R and Python to help wrangle data into an analysis ready format and extract useful insights. She is an R enthusiast and was an active contributor to the R User Group at the University of Manchester.

Dr Jeremy Pike

Snr Research Data Scientist (IIDSAI)

Jeremy holds an M.Sci. in Mathematics and Physics and a Ph.D. in Image Processing and Biomedical Imaging. After completing his Ph.D. Jeremy worked as an Image Analyst at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute before moving to the Centre of Membrane Proteins and Receptors (COMPARE) at the University of Birmingham.

Jeremy has extensive experience with image processing and analysis including machine learned-based methods and enjoys teaching on these topics. Jeremy’s previous research has focussed on methodology for analysing advanced biomedical microscopy data, in particular super resolution techniques.

Dr Cai Wingfield

Snr Research Data Scientist (IIDSAI)

Cai holds an MASt/MMath in pure mathematics from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in theoretical computer science from the University of Bath; his thesis was entitled “Graphical Foundations for Dialogue Games” and was supervised by Professors John Power and Guy McCusker, giving him an Erdős number of 3.  Since then, Cai has worked as a postdoc on computational models in cognitive science and neuroimaging at the Universities of Lancaster and Cambridge.
