Using genome sequences collected throughout the epidemic a detailed history of the movement of the Obola virus within and between the three most effected countries could be reconstructed.

Nick and Josh's work with portable nanosequencing equipment has also been used to help establish real-time genomic surveillance during the recent outbreak of Zika virus in Brazil.
