Teaching excellence is a keynote feature of Teacher Education. Indeed, both the Primary and Secondary ITE routes were rated as ‘Outstanding’ in the 2013 OFSTED inspection. The Department incorporates members who are engaged in the highly-regarded PGDipEd programmes which includes the primary specialism offering both general and early years training and the secondary specialism which is available in 11 subjects as well as the PG in Teaching Studies for those who have a PGCE. The Department also plays host to the School Direct programme in both primary and secondary schools.
Additionally, departmental members make a significant contribution to the Undergraduate Studies, Research Training and the Professional Development programmes, including the Education for Health Professionals programme. The Department hosts many postgraduate research students undertaking a PhD as well as those students retuning to take a MA in Teaching Studies after their teacher training year with us.
Within the department, the research explores topics such as Learning Theory and Variation as well as Routes into Teaching.
