Undergraduate African Studies and Anthropology at Birmingham

London Anthropology Day

We've taught African Studies and Anthropology at the University of Birmingham for over 50 years. The Guardian ranks us in the top 10 for Anthropology and Archaeology in the UK (2023), and we have particular strengths in social and cultural anthropology.

As an anthropology student you will look at theories from anthropologists working all over the world, the interplay of anthropology with other academic disciplines, and developmental and humanitarian concerns.

With opportunities to do fieldwork of your own, you will become an acute observer of the societies around you.  Your degree can be tailored to include modules that suit your strengths and interests, and positions you for a wide range of careers. The University of Birmingham is the 3rd most targeted university by the country’s top graduate employers according to The Graduate Market 2023 report.
