Recruitment of new staff is quality driven and will enable the Department of Philosophy at Birmingham to build on its international reputation as one of the foremost Philosophy departments in the UK for research, graduate supervision and undergraduate teaching.

Philosophy at Birmingham has been ranked second among all Philosophy departments in the UK, with over 50% of our research judged to be ‘world-leading’. This is a result of the most recent national Research Excellence Framework exercise, which assessed research publications and the public impact of research carried out in all universities in the UK between 2008-2014.

‘I am delighted with our recent appointments of impressive new academic members of staff and look forward to welcoming them to Birmingham. Students will soon be reaping the benefits from their input into teaching and research.  We are committed to ensuring that Birmingham continues to be a vibrant place to study Philosophy.’

Dr Nikk Effingham, Head of the Department of Philosophy
