Providing a sample of written work
Congratulations on receiving an offer to study MA English Literature. As a condition of your offer you are required to submit a sample of written work. This will be reviewed by the Department to determine if it is of an acceptable standard.
This should be a piece of academic writing from your first degree, on English (or Anglophone) literature, that demonstrates your ability to closely read and analyse primary texts (e.g. a novel, poem, or film), and to construct an argument (please note that journalism and creative writing - including poems, stories, or memoirs - are not acceptable). We cannot read more than about 2,000 words of submitted written work, so please either send something of that length, or indicate within a longer work what you would like us to read.
