The All Party Parliamentary Group on Shakespeare

A cross-party group of MPs and peers which aims to promote the influence and legacy of William Shakespeare.
The APPG’s objectives are to promote Shakespeare’s work in the community, exploring the teaching and learning of Shakespeare in educational settings; embedding accessibility in Shakespeare’s works as staged, translated, adapted, and performed, including in British Sign Language; and to explore Shakespeare’s literary, cultural, and performance legacy as part of the intangible cultural heritage of the world and as a contributor to Britain’s soft power.
The APPG was originally launched in 2022 by University of Birmingham alumnus James Morris, who served as MP for Halesowen at the time. It is now chaired by Dr Manuela Perteghella, MP for Stratford-upon-Avon. The Shakespeare Institute serves as the external secretariat of the group.
