In the Research Excellence Framework 2021, our physics research is ranked 4th in the UK for GPA and top for 4* research.

Our research informs a broad range of disciplines, including medical science and the treatment of diseases. Our pioneering work enhances the equipment used in treating cancers and liver disease as well has enhancing positron imaging in both medical, physics and engineering arenas.
