Our collaborations unite basic scientists, clinicians, patient partners and regulatory bodies to create a fully integrated, multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach to managing chronic neurological and systemic diseases. Our areas of research excellence include translational and clinical research into neurological and neurodegenerative disease, sight loss, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer, cardiac disease and inflammatory bowel disease.
Our research is embedded into four Centres of Excellence including NIHR BRC, Microbiome Treatment Centre, Bladder Cancer Research Centre, MRC Versus Arthritis Centre for Musculoskeletal Ageing Research and Centre for Liver and Gastrointestinal Research .
Birmingham is also one of the top universities in the UK for studying Biomedical Science, seamlessly integrating the department's pioneering research into its undergraduate and postgraduate Biomedical Sciences programs.
