About the Department of Public Administration and Policy

The Department of Public Administration and Policy was formed in August 2023 to lead research, teaching, and change in public administration and policy.

Our vision is to advance democracy, sustainability, and social justice by fostering collaboration and challenge in public administration and policy. Combining local embeddedness with international diversity, we are a unique hub for co-production and engagement in response to complex public challenges.

Our department includes:

The Institute of Local Government Studies (INLOGOV) plays a vital role in promoting our research through knowledge exchange and policy engagement. It connects academia with policymakers and public sector leaders, ensuring research is accessible and impactful. It delivers professional training while amplifying our policy influence through events, publications, and online ‘Local Government Exchange’ sessions.

Publics and Power is a research cluster that addresses the interface between diverse publics and power holders in political and public service contexts across the Global South and North.

Sustainability and Governance is a research cluster that examines how the governance of climate change, resource depletion, and social injustice influences sustainable development.

The Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Government (CAIG) bridges technological innovation with social science insights across the School of Government. With expanded research capacity and dedicated data science support, CAIG is advancing AI applications in governance.
