Who makes our investment decisions

The University of Birmingham’s Council is a “trustee” of the University’s investment portfolios - they are legally responsible for the proper investment and safekeeping of these funds.

Decision-making committees

  • Strategy, Planning and Resources Committee (SPRC): Responsible for governance of the University’s investment portfolios, on behalf of Council – receive regular reports on the activities of Investment Sub-Committee and have opportunity to comment. Committee membership includes student representation from the President of the Guild.
  • Investment Sub-Committee (ISC): Established by SPRC to determine the investment strategy and monitor performance that supports the objectives of the University.

In addition to the Decision-making committees, the Sustainability Steering Group (SSG) reviews and provides input and feedback on the Responsible Investment Policy annually to inform ISC and SPRC. This group includes representatives from across the University, including student representatives.

Have your say on investments

The University welcomes feedback and suggestions. You can do this in one of two ways.

  • Staff and students can submit feedback and suggestions using our feedback form. Whilst we cannot respond to each individual submission, we will group feedback and present to the Investment Sub-Committee annually for consideration.
  • Students: Submit your feedback directly to the President of the Guild of Students or approach your local Guild representative.
