Introduction to our framework

Our ambition is challenging, but we are clear that it remains achievable.

Our Framework outlines the blueprint for delivering that ambition. Our Framework is structured around six core pillars: Research, Education, Engagement and Impact, Civic and Global, People and Culture, and Sustainability. With world-class research and outstanding global education as our core mission, the six pillars are inter-connected and mutually supporting components of a unified strategy. World-leading research shapes student experience, while educational innovation can inspire new directions in research. Success in raising global impact, addressing complex global challenges and shaping policy change requires interdisciplinary capabilities, drawing together expertise from across the University, and often enabled by partnerships with industry. Throughout the pillars are themes of excellence, transformation, impact, and cooperation. Our collective values of ambition, innovation, collaboration, responsibility and openness underpin an institutional culture of excellence that empowers our people to thrive.

Our Framework articulates clear goals. These goals are statements of our strategic intent; a blueprint for the type of institution we want to be — and will be. In an increasingly challenging operating context for higher education, both domestically and internationally, our goals will enable us to prioritise what matters most, ensuring that our time, funding and expertise is focused on unlocking the greatest impact.

We are mindful that financial stability and strength will be an increasingly important — and challenging — differentiator in institutional success. Within the Framework we have emphasised activities that will enable us to balance long-term ambition with financial realism, ensuring that we can sustain and strengthen the foundations that support our academic mission. To that end, we outline priorities to increase funding, grow teaching income, attract investment, and improve our operating efficiency.
