Access to Birmingham Scholarships

Bringing the brightest minds to Birmingham, because where you start in life should not limit your future.

The Access to Birmingham (A2B) Scheme offers students the life-changing experience of attending university. Many bright young people are prevented from going to university they need because they simply cannot afford it or that they just don't have the support or encouragement to take that step.

We are immensely proud of our pioneering A2B scheme, which encourages talented students from families and communities in the West Midlands who have little or no experience of Higher Education to gain access to the University. The A2B Scholarship, worth £1,500 a year, ensures that financial support is available to the most able who have shown a commitment to achieve at university but who otherwise may not move into higher education because they are not able to afford it or simply have no family history of doing so.

“The scholarship helped me not to worry about money and to just focus on my education. Without it I believe I would not have been able to become a teacher and in turn help young people fulfil their educational aspirations and dreams.”

Thanks to the support of our alumni, supporters and friends, the Access to Birmingham (A2B) has already offered 720 such students an unrivalled opportunity to succeed despite difficult personal or financial circumstances. It facilitates the transition from school to university, opening doors and encouraging them to thrive.
