Hong Kong VC Reception
Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir David Eastwood hosts a group of alumni in Hong Kong, 2015

The Birmingham University Alumni Association of Hong Kong (BUAAHK) has been established since 1978 and is considered one of the oldest and largest Birmingham alumni groups outside the UK.

It is co-ordinated by a fantastic group of alumni volunteer committee members living in the region and working hard to find innovative ways to keep fellow alumni in Hong Kong connected with each other and their University.

As a truly global University, with more than 45,000 alumni living overseas, our international alumni volunteers play an important part in enabling us to effectively engage with the wider alumni base in their region, wherever this may be in the world. This engagement not only supports alumni following graduation by providing a supportive local network that is kept informed about Birmingham, but also contributes to our work in attracting the brightest and best international students and academics.

For many years the BUAAHK has provided opportunities for local alumni to network and offer professional support to each other, be informed about any new developments in Birmingham and simply have some fun and make new friends. Recently the committee has supported the Vice-Chancellor's alumni receptions by helping to promote these events to their networks and kept alumni informed with any events and news via the BUAAHK Facebook page. They have also organised a number of events ranging from race nights, wine tasting events and gatherings in association with other University alumni groups to leading hiking trips (something unique to our Hong Kong association) giving alumni an opportunity to network as well as doing something active, challenging and fun.

Members of the BUAAHK also volunteer their time to support current and prospective students by mentoring existing students and offering advice and guidance at careers fairs. They also have links with our current Birmingham PASS student society and inspire members with their own memories of Birmingham and their career journeys following graduation. This work is vital for us to offer a world class student experience for international students, as well as promote Birmingham and help talented prospective students choose the University for their studies.

All are welcome to take advantage of this local alumni network. If you are interested in finding out more see our Facebook page or email us.
