Hazel and Tim
Hazel and Tim first met in the autumn term of 1982 at Manor House. Hazel often called round to Tim’s room to retrieve her dictionary from his roommate Graham, who was also studying French.

Before long, however, Tim was of more interest to Hazel than the book, and by January 1983 they were a couple.
Following graduation, they both took jobs in Birmingham, married in 1987, and initially set up home in Northfield, not far from their former hall of residence.
Since they were spending most of their time outside work either in Northumberland or Scotland, it soon became apparent that it would be simpler if they relocated north. By January 1990 they had both secured jobs in Edinburgh, where they have lived ever since.
Tim retired from his career as an IT professional in 2012, while Hazel worked as a Professor of Social Informatics in the School of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University for a further 10 years. They are now free to enjoy much more time together, and often on their tandem bike.
