
India Institute Women in Research Fellowship

The India Institute Women in Research Visiting Fellows scheme aims to:
- promote gender equality, diversity and inclusion in higher education which is central to the mission and vision of the University of Birmingham and to our work in India.
- enable prominent Indian female scholars to do joint research with Birmingham researchers.
This fellowship scheme will:
- support prominent Indian female scholars, particularly in STEM science disciplines (e.g. life sciences, physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, computer science, health sciences etc - but open to other disciplines as well) to benefit from visiting and being based at the University of Birmingham for a period of time up to three months.
- contribute £850 towards economy-class international airfares, and offer a monthly stipend of £1,500 for up to three months to contribute towards living expenses and accommodation in Birmingham.
Applications are now open and will close on 3 November 2025. Outcomes will be announced by the end of the year. Successful candidates will be expected to come to Birmingham for a period up to three months between 1 January and 31 July 2026.

The scheme is open to:
- Female university lecturers or female post-doctoral researchers, currently working at recognized universities in India.
- Current PhD students are not eligible to apply.
The fellowship will last for up to three months.

Applications for 2025 have now closed
The application should be submitted by the visiting fellow, with confirmation from the host UoB academic school that they will host the visiting fellow for the duration of their stay.
Successful applications will indicate very clearly the expected benefits and outcomes from the fellowship.
The fellowship does not provide funding for consumables and project-specific costs.
Applications must demonstrate clear collaborative support from an academic member of staff at the University of Birmingham.
All applications are considered by a selection panel. Applicants can expect a decision on their application by end of December 2025.
The fellowship cannot be extended.

Please note: Visiting fellows are expected to cover their own visa fee, travel and medical insurance, and other domestic travel expenses incurred during their stay.
